Event Description

Visit Synapse's home studio as an Arts Partner in Residence with the Chicago Park District and take part in a full day of free programming! Take dance class, ask questions, and see the artwork being made. Come and go throughout the day and enjoy a deeper look into the creation of our newest works.

Modern Dance for adults taught by Chrissy Martin
Join us for modern dance as we build from a foundation of somatic awareness and develop freedom and expression in the body with improvisational and structured warm ups as well as choreography and phrase work. On Thursday, April 13 this class is FREE for new students - register to attend here.

New Works choreographers work-in-progress showing
Selected choreographers from the New Works program will show excerpts of their work and be open to feedback. Chrissy Martin will show excerpts from "Sonic Movement 1", a collaborative effort of vocal sound and physical movement in which seven performers interact through circular patterns that break apart and regenerate.

Open rehearsal of Synapse Arts’ newest work
Artistic Director Rachel Damon continues her development of "textile dances" in a new quartet that brings together large-scale arm knitting and movement to examine the intersection of art and craft. 
 
3:45pm to 4:30pm
Ballet for ages 4 to 7 
This class introduces young students to music and movement with a structured ballet progression. On Thursday, April 13 new students can try out this class for FREE as part of our open house! 
 
4:30pm to 5:30pm
Jazz for ages 7 to 11
Jazz class includes a warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. On Thursday, April 13 new students can try out this class for FREE as part of our open house! 
 
Synapse Arts is in residency at Loyola Park through the Chicago Park District’s Arts Partners in Residence Program, which unites artists and communities in Chicago's parks.
