Event Description

Afro-Dancehall Fusion captures and recreates the fun and vibrancy of Rocksteady Sunday's atmosphere, while providing an interactive learning experience. The class edition integrates traditional West African movement, Jamaican dancehall, and African pop culture dance styles; creating a colorful montage of dances of the Diaspora. Chicago’s own Shrine dance coordinator and principal dancer Stacy Letrice coined the signature style, as it mirrors her extensive dance and performance background. Her credits include artists such as Elephant Man, Taurus Riley, Lady Patra, Latonya Styles, Muntu Dance Theater, and Ayodele Drum and Dance. Participants will learn basic steps and technique and how to groove and flow. Then, apply those very movements to exciting and lively choreography. In addition, participants will gain understanding of the fundamental similarities and differences between the various cultural styles while exploring individuality, confidence, body awareness, and passion.

These classes take place on Wednesday's from 7-8PM at the American Rhythm Center!
