A HOLIDAY STORY INSPIRED BY THE CLASSIC BALLET

More than likely, you've seen a performance of the ballet The Nutcracker at least once in your life. The now classic ballet is performed by ballet companies of all sizes, student and professional alike, across the U.S. and the world each December. The Nutcracker, set to an enchanting score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, was originally created by two of classic ballet's foremost choreographers, Maruis Petipa and Lev Ivanov, in 1982 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The ballet later gained widespread popularity in the U.S. after another historic choreographer, George Balanchine, premiered a version using his own choreography on the New York City Ballet in 1954. For many of us, The Nutcracker seems like as much a necessary part of the Christmas season as are favorite Christmas carols or setting up a Christmas tree.

Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts' Beyond the Nutcracker begins in the 1940’s, just as the Cooper family is preparing their annual Christmas party. Emma and Peter wait eagerly for the arrival of their Uncle Abrahms, who has promised to be home from the war in time for Christmas. As the evening drags on, it seems that Uncle Abrahms may not be keeping his promise after all - but wait! There is a knock at the door, and sure enough, it is the much-anticipated guest...

This December, Uncle Abrahms and over 100 students from Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts pre-professional ballet training programs invite you to come on a magical holiday journey set to Tchaikovsky's renowned Nutcracker score. Emma and Peter seem to think that Uncle Abrahms' telling of the story of the first Christmas is just a fairytale. What do you think?
