Her Notes
A self-proclaimed “visual artist whose medium is dance," choreographer Jessica Lang incorporates striking design elements and transforms classical ballet language to conceive a complete universe, both artfully crafted and emotionally engaging. Lang finds an intriguing inspiration for her “visual music” in a piano suite by Fanny Mendelssohn, the sister of composer Felix Mendelssohn, for her first ABT commission.
Other Dances
Other Dances pays homage to Chopin’s romanticism and the purity of classical ballet technique, featuring two dancers in a series of short, folk-infused dances. Created in 1976 for Natalia Makarova and Mikhail Baryshnikov, this dramatic pas de deux was specifically crafted to display the dancers’ remarkable technique and artistry.
Thirteen Diversions
Geometries shift in refreshing ways to create Christopher Wheeldon’s choreographic kaleidoscope of surprising images and spectacular contrasts. With four principal couples and 16 corps de ballet members, this is ballet on a grand scale.
