"Crash brings a compelling mixture of ballet, breakdancing, hip hop, martial arts and dangerous acrobatics into seamless alignment." - Chicago Tribune
“…a marvelously cohesive and physically fearless group.” – Chicago Sun-Times
Chicago Dance Crash kicks off the year with a first-time headlining performance as part of Columbia College Chicago’s 2014-2015 Dance Center season! No sets, no props, no storyline… simply new and updated repertory works emphasizing the signature Crash style of “artsy hip hop” with a few surprises along the way.
An all star collection of dance makers will inject urban vocabulary into “one of the pre-eminent presenters of contemporary dance in the Midwest.” The program will include classic choreography from Lizzie MacKenzie Pontarelli and Artistic Director Jessica Deahr as well as premier works from "the Father of Chicago Fusion" James Morrow & and an unprecedented collaboration between Midwest modern icon Paul Christiano and funk hip hip prodigy Richard Ashworth. Perhaps most notably on display will be Crash's first experience with Brooklyn's own Nicholas Leicther... the East coast artist that begat the artists that has made Crash what it is today! And, of course, we'll be throwing in a new freestyle as well to keep things honest.
The weekend of performances will be Crash’s only local premier concert until December of 2015 and will include a post performance discussion on Thursday Feb. 19th as well as a “FamilyDance” matinee and workshop on Saturday Feb. 21st at 2:15pm. As part of our Chicago family, be the FIRST to see the Crash works the rest of the country will be seeing for the next several years!
