Ishti proudly presents Sarmishtha Sarkar in Durdhara: The Unstoppable One

This work in progress is based on the life of Amba, a heroine from the Mahabharata, whose life faces relentless challenges which finally results in revenge against the great Bhishma, an unparalleled archer and warrior of his time. Through dance and spoken word, join us as we navigate Amba's trials as she takes her life into her own hands. Performance to be followed by discussion with the artist.

Sarmishtha Sarkar began her Bharatanatyam training at a very young age. Her intense passion with the art form led her to become a performer and the lead dancer at Mrinalini Sarabhai’s Darpana Academy of Performing Arts for almost two decades. Experiencing an urge to add more dimensions to her creativity she started her own classical dance school in 1996, in Ahmedabad, “Aavirbhaav School of Creative Arts”. Sarmishtha has performed and conducted dance workshops in as many as 25 countries such as Sri Lanka, France, Germany, Portugal, Luxembourg, Belgium, Spain, Italy, U.K., Iraq, Taiwan, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, U.S.A., Netherlands, Poland, Israel, Japan, Greece and USSR.

“Sarmishtha is one of the persevering and daring young performers who following their initial training in classical dance style have been from time to time turning to innovations that help them communicate a larger number of people. In her experimental work “Dashavatara” Sarmishtha rather delightfully essays with her group.” ~ The Times of India
