Chicago premiere! Director Kate Geis in person!
"For the uninitiated, the interplay of labor and inspiration may come as a surprise. A dance gets hammered out, made to fit, and polished to beauty like a shoe made by a master cobbler." — Deborah Jowatt, ArtsJournal
"We’re shown what the camera has seldom been able to record: a great choreographer at work on a new piece.” — Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times
In an unprecedented move, 80-year-old Paul Taylor, considered to be one of the greatest living American choreographers, allows filmmaker Geis complete behind-the-scenes access to the creation of “Three Dubious Memories,” a dance inspired by the multiple viewpoints of RASHOMON. Once called “the naughty boy of dance” by Martha Graham for his daring subject matter, Taylor reveals the intricacies of his normally private creative process as he casts dancers and takes a hands-on approach to guiding them to an exuberant public performance of a work based on a passionate and jealous love triangle. OCTOBER 9: Director Kate Geis will be present for audience discussion at both screenings.
