Take a seat and travel back to the golden age of entertainment! Kelly Anderson Dance Theatre’s newest production, VAUDEVILLE!, throws a contemporary spin on historical variety. A cheeky water ballet, kiddy act antics, a sister act gone awry, an ill-intended Drag Queen, a mechanical dream man and conjoined twin flappers are just a few of the many colorful characters and acts that make up this 14 piece variety show. Who are these characters when the curtain drops and who will they become when it’s curtain call? The answer is a VAUDEVILLE! show of sorts, one in which backstage dramas bleed onstage and onstage behavior seeps into the wings. There are no people quite like show people! Kelly Anderson Dance Theatre is as Chicago-based dance company. KADT's most recent work, Message Me If..., premiered in 2014. Prior to Anderson's arrival from NYC in 2012, Kelly created the evening-length, This is how we disappear and The Little Things with Portland-based company bobbevy. Kelly created two solo shows with Danceworks Performance Company (Milwaukee,WI), Vaudeville and The Bra Project. Her most notable independently produced works include an original dance/theatre/opera collaboration, 26, with Milwaukee Opera Theatre, choreography for Gal Friday Film's Missed Connections, Red Knife Lottery's music video Junkie Jazz, the creation of The Mondo Lucha Dancers for The Mondo Lucha Variety Show, two collaborative evening-lengths, Vacant and Bad Meat, choreography for A Wrinkle in Time with actor/director Mark Metcalf, and the First Stage production, Peter Pan. Kelly has co-produced Variety Show’s in Milwaukee, in Portland, OR, and has continued to produce them independently since 2010. Her work has been performed in The Minnesota Fringe Festival and her commissioned work, Shower, was presented at The Puffin Room in NYC. Since her arrival, she has performed her work at the 2014 D49 Festival, the 2014 Harvest Dance Festival and THAW, 2015, 2014 & 2013.
