Winterlux is an evening of modern belly dance with timeless appeal. Showcasing a variety of styles and artists, the show will feature Chicago-based troupe Spellbound, the nationally renowned Jill Parker, and a variety of soloists and groups from around the Midwest, all tied together with the vaudevillian charm of emcee Sammy Tramp. This unforgettable collection of performers is sure to delight belly dance newcomers and aficionados alike.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Jill Parker (headliner) is the founder of the modern Tribal Fusion belly dance phenomenon, birthed out of San Francisco California in the mid-90s. Jill was an original member of FatChanceBellyDance and founder of Ultra Gypsy Dance Theater, the trail-blazing company that launched such renowned performers as Rachel Brice, Sharon Kihara, Lady Fred, Rose Harden and countless others. With nearly three decades of experience, Jill has trained the top belly dancers in the genre and influenced a generation of belly dancers with her modern innovations, all the while remaining deeply rooted in her connection to the traditional, sensual and authentic.
Spellbound (headliner/producer) is a modern fusion belly dance company creating innovative group dance choreographies in Chicago. Led by artistic director Eliza Perry, this dynamic group of dancers always lives up to their namesake by keeping audiences captivated with crisp isolations, theatrical flair, and unparalleled group precision. Spellbound has appeared at Tribal Revolution, Links Hall’s THAW, Uptown Underground, Alhambra Palace, and White Cat Cabaret, among others. Director Eliza Perry is a former principal dancer with Read My Hips, the co-founder of Jezebelly Tribal Belly Dance and apprentice troupe BellyRing, and member of the teaching staff at Arabesque Dance & Fitness in Chicago where she offers instruction to intermediate and advanced level students in Tribal and Modern Fusion Belly Dance.
