Founded in 1957, Old Town School provides a wide range of music, dance, theater, and visual arts courses to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Whatever one's interest, Old Town School provides broad access to more than 800 accredited class offerings, private lessons, and workshops that span an array of artistic genres.

Old Town School experienced tremendous growth since opening its Lincoln Square facility in 1998. With an accessible education model, an array of diverse arts offerings, a dedicated and talented faculty, and an entrepreneurial spirit, Old Town School has been able to fulfill its mission for tens of thousands more people -- students, concert audiences, school children and working artists.

The School's critically acclaimed concerts showcase some of the finest and most diverse local and touring artists in our intimate and acoustically superb hall. Ticket prices remain among the most affordable in the city and special events such as the Square Roots Festival and World Music Wednesdays make music accessible to all with free and reduced-priced programs.

Old Town School owns and operates three facilities situated in Lincoln Square and Lincoln Park that include 425-seat and two 150-seat concert halls, 64 classrooms, two music stores, a café and a resource center. Children's classes are also held at several suburban satellite locations.

Dance Classes

Welcome to Chicago's largest, most diverse and beginner-friendly school of Dance and Movement! And, it's inside the largest community arts school in the United States! Founded in 1957, Old Town School teaches and celebrates music and cultural expressions rooted in the traditions of diverse American and global communities.

Old Town School is open 7 days a week and has two campuses. The Lincoln Avenue campus consists of West Building 4544 N. Lincoln Ave. and East Building 4545 N. Lincoln Ave (773) 728-6000. The Armitage Avenue campus is located at 909 W. Armitage Ave. in Lincoln Park, Chicago (773) 525-3655.

With classes in everything from Argentinean Tango to Zumba, the Old Town School offers more than 100 dance and movement classes for early childhood through adult in 8-week sessions, 16-week sessions, special classes and one-day workshops. Some children's classes are open enrollment.
