Event Description

See Chicago Dance's seventh annual Awards Presentation & Dance Community Celebration, takes place October 26, 2021. The event celebrates Chicago's thriving, resilient dance community and honors two individuals who have been critical to its success. Hema Rajagopalan, Founding Artistic Director of Natya Dance Theatre, will receive the Legacy Award recognizing her artistic leadership. Randy Duncan will receive the Distinguished Service to the Dance Field Award, which is awarded to those that make vital contributions to the health and vibrancy of the Chicago Dance sector.

Proceeds raised during the annual Dance Community Celebration support a variety of programs that bolster dance organizations and artists, and educate audiences, such as Chicago Dance Month (our annual celebration promoting 60+ dance performances and educational/audience engagement events); Moving Dialogs (a forward-thinking discussion series for artists and audiences, currently on hiatus); Screendance Club (a radically casual online watch-party of short dance films); quarterly convenings of the dance community (peer networking and guest speakers representing funders, advocacy groups, and professional services); a membership program for dance companies, organizations, and individual artists (106 organizations in 2021), and subsidized rental of a portable dance floor and sound equipment for use by member organizations and artists.
