Event Description

CLOSURE represents the culmination of 20 years of artistry, and collaboration for Innervation Dance Cooperative. This will also be IDC's final performance as the creative company you have watched grow.CLOSURE is not meant to be a farewell or goodbye, but the opening of a new chapter for us as artists and individuals. In true IDC fashion, we will be doing a show within a show with our first act being comprised of new premiere works by the six current cooperative and company members and the second being a modern ballet version of the beautiful play, "The Arkansaw Bear", written by Aurand Harris.

"The Arkansaw Bear" tells the story of 'Tish' and her encounter with 'The World's Greatest Dancing Bear'. Confronted with her grandfather’s death, Tish wishes upon a Star to gain some understanding of why people have to die. Enter the World’s Greatest Dancing Bear who (with the help of a 'Little Bear') demonstrates the importance of passing along knowledge; ensuring Bear’s dances will live forever. Witnessing Bear teach Little Bear his dances, Tish begins to understand the meaning of both life and death.

"The Arkansaw Bear" is very special to IDC founder Michael Sherman, as it was one of his first professional productions. Michael played 'Little Bear' when he was 17 years old and now at the age of 53, he will play 'The World's Greatest Dancing Bear'. Sherman considers himself very lucky to have been directed by Playwright Aurand Harris and is excited to bring this amazing story to IDC audiences. The play is about the circle of life and IDC's production brings Michael's experience full circle. "The Arkansaw Bear"also speaks to Innervation Dance Cooperative's mission: to teach the next generation of dance artists, foster growth and provide creative opportunities for its company members. IDC would like to thank everyone for their support over the last two decades!

IDC strives to create original work by collaborating with artists of all backgrounds and has a focus on giving not only veterans, but new creators a platform to show their work. This has allowed us to continue to grow into the wonderful company you see here today.
