The College of DuPage Department of Dance presents its 5th Annual Choreography Showcase and Competition at the McAninch Arts Center Saturday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m. This event gives aspiring dancemakers a platform to develop their artistic voice as well as an opportunity to present and develop an audience for their work. This ticketed event is open to the public. A post-show discussion will be held following the showcase.

 

Past winners have included

• Joseph Hernandez (2018), who has been formally presented at the NYC Blueprint Dance Festival and DanceChance and has a commission debuting this month with Chicago’s Hot Crowd Dance;

• Morgan "Mo" Williams (2018), co-founder of Milwaukee’s SueMo: A Dance Experience, Milwaukee’s and recently appointed head choreographer for Purple Veins – The Essential Prince Tribute Band; 

• Ela Olarte (2017), who has choreographed for Cocodāco and produced the dance films “Shift” and “Benign;”

• Taylor Mitchell (2016), whose choreography credits include DanceWorks Chicago and The Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre;

• Selena Robinson (2016), who has choregraphed pieces performed at The Harris Theater for Music and Dance;

• Rebecca (Becca) Lemme (2015), who has been commissioned and presented by LA Contemporary Dance Company, Los Angeles Theater Center, River North Dance Chicago, Luna Negra, California Institute of the Arts, Columbia College Chicago, Loyola University Chicago, among others;

• Joshua Manculich (2015), currently a professor at Sam Houston University, whose choreography credits include Eisenhower Dance, MET Dance Company and DanceWorks Chicago.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three choreographers as follows: $700 (1st Place), $500 (2nd Place) and $200 (3rd Place.) One or more of the selected choreographers may be chosen to have their work featured on the McAninch Arts Center Belulshi Performance Hall stage the 2019-2020 school year and receive an additional stipend.

Choreographers interested in submitting work must submit a completed application form by June 1. Interested choreographers must be age 18 and older. Dance works must be no more than 10 minutes in length and may be set on any number of dancers. For more info., email slovenj@cod.edu
