Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre Continues 15th Anniversary Celebration With Fall Concert Series, 2014

CRDT brings its unique blend of original dance, live music and visual art to the stage

On Saturday, September 13, 2014, Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre will perform its Fall Concert Series at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts (1016 N Dearborn St, Chicago) at 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Tickets available at cerquarivera.org or 312-243-9310. All ticket holders will be invited to the Wrap Party at 9:30 pm – details will be announced at both concerts.

The Fall Concert Series is an opportunity to see the company perform with its full ensemble of musicians and dancers. Audiences describe them in performance as "thrilling," "energized," and "like nothing I've ever seen." Among the pieces performed on September 13 will be 4 new works.

1) Associate Artistic Director Raphaelle Ziemba will present her piece In the Depths of the Sensuous, which was selected to perform at Core Project Chicago’s Going Dutch on June 27. She will also premiere a new work in collaboration with Joe Cerqua which explores how we deal with tragedy and pain without religion or spirituality.

2) Set to music by Joe Cerqua, E/last/ic P/ash is a new duet by Marc Macaranas. Inspired by the thrill of meeting someone for the first time, the dance describes the waves of fluctuating excitement and intrigue that go hand-in-hand with the prospect of new connections. The movement, while derived from a classic jazz dance idiom, is recontextualized in a flirty, furtive voice of its own.

3) Artistic Director Wilfredo Rivera will explore and revisit songs that were part of his childhood growing up in Honduras in tribute to his parents, who are still active and talented musicians today.
