Fall Showcase: The Expanding Universe Project

Event Type
Performance
Event Description

In 1932, Ruth Page, in collaboration with artist Isamu Noguchi, created an iconic solo entitled Expanding Universe. This year, in celebration of our 50th anniversary, the Ruth Page Center for the Arts has commissioned Chicago-based dancemaker Nejla Yatkin, to create a re-imagined Expanding Universe on the Ruth Page Civic Ballet Training Company.

Yatkin’s new work pays homage to Page’s original solo, and will debut in our home theater at The Ruth Page Center for the Arts, October 15-17, 2021.

This evening length program will also feature new contemporary works from Rigo Saura and Nelson Reyes, spotlighting dancers from the Ruth Page Civic Ballet Training Company and School of Dance. Saura’s work Pink Nights Never End is presented in collaboration with Chicago Dancemakers Forum, as part of the 2021 Production Residency Pilot Project.

*Audiences are still required to wear masks while in the building and attending the performance.
** Any contributed donations will be applied to our "50k for 50 Years" Anniversary Campaign.
