Event Description

CONTEMPORARY DANCE CLASS:  Intermediate to Advanced Levels

Rigo focuses on intrinsic connections between body and mind, establishing a kinetic, intuitive interface between impulse and its expression through movement.

His class is based on three structures: physical conditioning, floor work and movement development.  He combines a technical repertoire that includes floor work, low-flying movement and contact improvisation to develop a “movement melody” that navigates in and out of the floor in the same sequence.

RIGOBERTO FERNANDEZ SAURA graduated from Havana’s Escuela Nacional de Cuba and the Instituto Superieur de Arte with a degree in dance.  He danced as a soloist with Danza Contemporanea de Cuba (2008-2012) and served as a professor of dance at the National School of Contemporary Dance in Havana.

He moved to Quito-Ecuador as a resident choreographer and professor in Ecuador’s Urban Ballet and Composition Master of the Metropolitan School of Art.  Currently, Mr. Saura resides in Chicago, Illinois where he is a dancer, teacher, and guest choreographer at Hedwig Dances, Concert Dance Inc., and the Ruth Page Center for the Arts. His development has continued as guest teacher at the Latin School of Chicago, Choreo-Lab Workshop at New Trier High School and guest artist/instructor for the professional program at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.
