Chicago’s Deeply Rooted Dance Theater is rooted in traditions of African-American dance, storytelling and universal themes that spark a visceral experience and ignite an emotional response in diverse audiences worldwide. Collaborating with internationally renowned choreographers, across the spectrum of modern, ballet and African dance, DRDT’s work reflects many voices in contemporary life. Embarking on the next 20 years of artistic excellence, the company will premiere Alice, by Nicole Clarke-Springer, and feature INDUMBA, Heaven, and more.

The company’s performance history spans the nation and the world. National appearances include the Auditorium Theater (Chicago), the Harris Theater (Chicago), The Dance Center of Columbia College (Chicago), Brooklyn Academy of Music (New York), the Apollo Theater (New York), and Ordway Performing Arts Center (St. Paul, MN). Internationally, the company has performed at Migros Steps Festival (Switzerland), Madrid Arts Festival (Spain), Gianna Nicollette Tours (Germany & Italy), Spectacles Plus (France), The Brasilia International Dance Seminar and Competition (Brazil), Calgary Center for the Arts (Canada), and the 15th Annual JOMBA! Contemporary Dance Experience (South Africa).
