Event Description

Since 2001, Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble (CDE) has created and produced socially-conscious, multidisciplinary works that challenge and engage audiences. Through innovative storytelling, the works aim to ignite conversations, spark change and build community. Or more simply put, the works created and produced by CDE share, “One Voice, One Story, One Person at a Time.”

Examining the current socio-political climate, there is unrest and frustration that is driving an undercurrent for change; a need for more from our leadership, as well as from one another. Our community is continually evolving as more of us grow aware of our individual positions within society and attempt to express our truths. As CDE approaches our 20th anniversary, we wanted to take the space to re-examine the socio-political landscape in Chicago and how art can better benefit the needs of the greater Chicago community.

For the 2019-2020 Performance Season, CDE seeks to curate and create a presenting series focused in disseminating information related to current socio-political topics. These topics include race, gender, sexual identity, and immigration. Throughout the course of the performance season, CDE will select artists to explore similar themes, through their own vocal lens. After each performance, CDE wants the artists and the audience to come together to discuss the works presented and the topic of focus. Performances take place one weekend in September, January, March and May. CDE will select up to four artists and/or companies to present for each themed weekend. Submitted works must be no longer than 30 minutes long.
