Event Description

Mandala Arts presents Pranaya: Romances in Poetry, a traditional classical music and dance concert.

Through two geometric forms of Indian classical dance—Odissi, which is sensuous and intricate, and Bharatanatyam, which is athletic and angular—artists bring mythological romances to life through wordless storytelling. Musicians join the dancers live in performing the popular Carnatic style of classical music as well as Odissi classical music, and a “nattuvanar,” or conductor, leads the dance and music together. Mandala performers on the program represent a range of artistic experience to reflect the organization’s multiple generations.

From the pangs of separation to the ecstasy of union, we explore myriad forms of love, incorporating past choreography and new ideas to create a unique program,” Pranita Nayar, Mandala Founder/Artistic Director
