Event Description

dropshift dance, celebrating its 12th Anniversary Season in 2022 and praised for creating work which is weird beautiful, playful and alluring (Art Intercepts, Chicago) and an ingenious offering (Laura Molzahn, The Chicago Tribune) premieres, DWELL/burrow.

DWELL/burrow highlights each dancer's sensory experience of family tradition and history.  Built from written archives, interviews, and collective memories of maternal/paternal predecessors, the work physically stacks and dissects lists of words and phrases mined during creative research while considering themes of visibility within the space and the context of time. dropshift collaborates with Scott Rubin, an interdisciplinary musician and improvising violist whose work interrogates relationships between sound and movement through analog and digital means. The music is a product of a collaborative process with the dancers. Text scores, interview excerpts collected by the dancers, and viola improvisations were recontextualized and woven into a tapestry of shifting landscapes that amplify and reframe the bodies.

Also on the program is Ghost Ensemble, an original improvised solo developed by collaborative dance group The Space Movement Project (TSMP) and performed by company artist Anne Kasdorf.
