Event Description

Deez Nuts!: Black Bodies Dancing Defiance
Directed and Choreographed by C. Kemal Nance, PhD
Conversation Moderated by SCD Writer-at-large Gregory King

The Nance Dance Collective is an all-mall dance initiative that seeks to produce choreographies that narrate the multifaceted discourse of Black manhood. Its latest project, "Deez Nuts! Black Bodies Dancing Defiance" explores the masculinities and cultural scripts that emerge from being a Black dancing man in three African Diasporic communities in Jamaica, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In their own words and movement, Gavin Hart, Callum Sterling, and Danzel Thompson-Stout share their lived experiences.

CART Captioning will be provided for this event. If you need a different accessible accommodation to enjoy this program, or if you have any questions about accommodations, please email surinder@seechicagodance.com or call (312) 846-6357.

Join See Chicago Dance's latest program, Screendance Club: a radically casual watch-party and discussion of short dance films.

Different from a typical talk-back, SCD is aiming to put viewers and artists on equal footing, with the artists participating as members of the conversation rather than as the experts in the room. SCD writers will serve as curators, facilitating conversations between critics and audiences on viewing and interpreting dance.
