Self-Centered Selves, a transformative performance evening, is a search into: how humans can live calmly among others, other things and intangible phenomena–with the sensitivity and physicality to “Be” well. Experimental dance artist Ayako Kato will premiere her new solo Then, inspired by Alvin Lucier’s music, I am sitting in a room, and accompanied by her own choreographic video installation. She will also premiere a group work, Green Tea, based on her experience of ordering Earl Grey, yet getting green tea at a cafe. With Darling ShearJasmine Mendoza and Hannah Geil-Neufeld, the piece gracefully invites the audience to reflect on how each of us has depth beyond racial and cultural assumptions/outlooks as an individual and human being: Like her previous two shows, the audience will happily experience some participatory elements during/between the pieces. Lighting Design by Simean Carpenter. Please visit www.artunionhumanscape.net for more details.
