Event Description

SheWolf Sacred Movement is about recalling what is natural, instinctual, and vital within the human experience. Over 60 artists explore four stages of healing in a cohesive two-hour concert. The performances center multicultural, LGTBQIA+ identified, cis-gendered women, and non-binary people inspired by stories of pain and resilience.

Directed by Julie Brannen, with a team of six choreographers and over 15 guest artists, dances range from classical to contemporary. The works include neo-vintage burlesque with Gaea Lady, belly dance, hip-hop, and modern fusion with Ellen Dancer, modern movement inspired by indigenous rights of passage with Brandice Manuel, movement rooted in Capoeira Angola rituals with Huu Nguyen, Tahitian dance rooted in Polynesian culture with Gabriela Mejia, a creative style inspired by Indian classical dances Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi with Laksha Dantran, and a modern interpretation of traditional Malinke and Baga West African dance rituals with Jen Halman. Sharing personal and collective moments of trials and triumphs, the result is an eclectic show that becomes courageous as it extends itself to the viewer.

All performances will include ASL interpretation and wheelchair access. Opening night will include reception in Hoover-Leppen Theatre lobby. Closing night will feature an artist talkback post performance. Ticket link is live 24/7. Tickets will be available at the door. Theater is located in the heart of Boystown neighborhood, Chicago.
