Event Description

Chicago’s Ballet 5:8 invites you to experience a riveting evening of dance inspired by C.S. Lewis, hosted by the Wheaton College Artist Series.

Featured ballet The Space in Between is set on a bus ride between heaven and hell, a story inspired by C. S. Lewis’ novel The Great Divorce. The Space in Between explores the nature of eternity and the joy found on its shores. In Lewis’ work, Hell is not a place where a vengeful God tortures his victims, but a place “where the gates are locked from the inside.” Lewis writes, “There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, in the end, ‘Thy will be done.’”

This all-C.S. Lewis program also features Ballet 5:8's Meditations, inspired by Lewis' es say Meditations in a Toolshed, and the world premiere of Of Splendors and Horrors, based on Lewis' The Weight of Glory.
