Event Description

Nomi Dance Company will be closing out its 7th season this coming May with an action packed performance featuring several innovative Chicago choreographers. This stirring performance,  “Spring Maneuvers”, will be performed on Saturday, May 17th at 8:00 PM at the Athenaeum Theatre.

Laura Kariotis, the Artistic Director of Nomi, has put together a program to provoke feelings of what the spring season can generate: renewal, regeneration, revitalization, and reinvigoration. After a winter that is considered harsh even by our mid-western standards, the change of season from winter to spring can bring about many emotions that affect our approach to daily life. “Spring Maneuvers” will explore how the transformation from winter to spring is projected onto the human psyche and its ability to transmute from a feeling of confinement to a sense of freedom and enlightenment.

Nomi will premiere high-spirited contemporary works by some of Chicago’s most sought after choreographers, including Joshua Blake Carter of Giordano Dance Chicago, Ahmad Simmons of River North Chicago Dance Company, Jessica Miller Tomlinson of Thodos Dance Chicago, and Nomi’s resident Latin Ballroom artist Alex Arteaga. These up and coming choreographers are sure to contribute their considerable talents to build an exciting performance.
