Out of the Dust | Saturday, February 27 at 7:00pm

Ballet 5:8's spring program Out of the Dust is a compilation of Ballet 5:8's contemporary works. Preston Miller's And Mercy explores concepts of judgment, grace and mercy in an athletic, contemporary style that engages the eye in continuous, connected movement emerging seamlessly from the music. Artistic Director Julianna Slager's Interplay is a noisy, chaotic, passionate, and even at times peaceful imagining of the animated dialog within the human mind, as seen from the perspective of the characters within it. Finally, Eden invites audiences to experience a visualization of the first six days of the world - as the Creator formed each element of the solar system, nature, and finally, shaped humankind out of the dust, breathed life into the first man and the first woman, and said that it was good.

Belteshazzar: A Perilous Tale | Sunday, Febraury 28 at 3:00pm

Belteshazzar: A Perilous Tale is a full-length story ballet in three acts, created by Ballet 5:8 Artistic Director Julianna Slager in 2015. The work brings an old, familiar and yet relevant story to life in the form of classical ballet. Featuring kings and kingdoms, royal egos, unfathomable dangers and mysterious dreams, the ballet takes audiences to the ancient Middle East for a wild ride alongside the young Daniel and his unwavering integrity. Set to the fabulous music of Benjamin Britten’s score originally used for Prince of the Pagodas, Belteshazzar is a beautiful ballet with powerful story.

The original Spring 2015 creation and performance of Belteshazzar: A Perilous Tale was partially supported by an Individual Artist Program grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events, as well as a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, through federal funds provided by the National Endowment for the Arts.
