In crafting the next moving dialog, here’s an opportunity to be involved as one of the core participants:
Come be part of “One World“ at the Chicago Cultural Center on Monday April 8th from 6:30 – 8:00pm!
Dance Groups & Musicians from diverse neighborhoods throughout Chicago are invited to perform live inside the Tiffany-domed Preston Bradley Hall as part of Moving Dialogs: Diversity+Dance vibrant event “One World”.
“One World” will be hosted by world renowned choreographer and founding artistic director of Urban Bush Women Jawole Zollar, who, with her company, has toured five continents and performed at venues including Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and The Kennedy Center.
Multi-faceted communities will converge at the Chicago Cultural Center to honor diverse dance groups that thrive throughout the city’s urban landscape. 7 Select troupes representing a cross-section of the city’s neighborhoods will perform live inside an open forum/jam session. Noted scholar C. S’thembile West will be present to reflect on this vibrant mixing of communities.
April 8th’s event - part of Audience Architects’ Moving Dialogs humanities series – investigates themes surrounding the concepts of community and culture, and how dance offers unique insight into shared values and principles. Dancers, musicians and the public gather together to witness, improvise, dialog and explore what it means to be part of ”One World“.
The “featured” 7 groups will:
–perform live an up to 5 minute ‘set’ showcasing their individual style.
–engage in a dialog/interview with the host Jawole Zollar, curator Baraka de Soleil and other featured groups on day of the event at Chicago Cultural Center.
–get to improvise with select dancers/musicians from the other groups inside the “One World” jam portion of the event.
–be featured online via Audience Architects website & related promotion for Moving Dialogs series “One World” event.
–be documented via video & photography for the Moving Dialog series.
– be invited to contribute to the Moving Reflections blog & Audience Architects social media; sharing your experience preparing and/or inside“One World”.
To be considered for one of the featured 7 groups for “One World”, we will need*:
- Name of the group
- Pertinent contact info – name of the director/lead contact person, email, phone number & website[if available).
- A link to a video/clip of your group performing
- A high resolution image of the group or of featured soloists.
- An answer to the question : "In relation to the concept of diversity as it is reflected in Chicago, what does it mean to be part of one world?"
- A description of the group -- is it modern, contemporary, traditional...do you work with live musicians? would they be willing to be part of the "One World" experience with you? how many performers in the group?
- A statement of your willingness to be "in the mix" with other dance groups; where you may be asked to improvise on the spot with other dancers or musicians.
- Confirmation of availability:for the event on Monday, April 8th from 6:00 - 8pm; tech/preparation on day of the event (tbd)
