The Rockford Dance Company in Rockford, IL, seeks highly-qualified candidates for the position of Artistic Director/School Administrator to develop and execute the organization’s creative and artistic vision. The Artistic Director/School Administrator (AD/SA) will work in  shared leadership with the Executive Director (ED) to direct and advance RDC’s mission, strategy, programming, and operations. Collectively reporting to the Board of Directors,  the AD/SA and ED will lead the entire team of employees and artists, serve as the public face of the organization, and garner the support of RDC’s stakeholders. Together, the Directors will build an engine of strategic change for programming, enrollment growth, fundraising, and community engagement that propels RDC into a period of vitality, sustainability, and lasting impact.

The Artistic Director/School Administrator is responsible for all artistic management functions of the company and school, establishing the artistic vision, preparing a company season and repertoire, and engaging an audience of all ages and backgrounds. The Artistic Director/School Administrator will balance creativity and a love of dance with the practical elements needed to run a successful dance school and present high quality, fiscally sound productions. This individual will display responsiveness to community needs and be intrinsically motivated. Strong written and oral communication skills are a must as are production management and supervision skills. A commitment to RDC’s mission of providing excellence in the art of dance through performance, classes, and outreach is imperative.

 

Rockford Dance Company is a 50-year old civic dance company and school based in Rockford, IL offering dance programming for ages 3 through adult in ballet, modern, jazz, as well as other styles. QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified candidates should have a passion for dance, experience and demonstrable skills in artistic leadership, budgeting and expense management, programming and production, team management, relationship building, and interacting with stakeholders including donors, audience-members, media, and other influencers. The successful candidate should have strong choreographic skill and should possess substantial training in classical ballet and contemporary dance. Candidates should have experience working in a leadership role within a dance company and successful experience as a teaching artist. They must have an ability to inspire dancers to perform at their highest level, while maintaining a culture of deep respect and collaboration. Strong public speaking skills, and a commitment to dance education and community engagement are expected.

 

Salary Range: $49,000 - $60,000 annually

The position is full-time, salaried, and exempt averaging 40 hours/week (including approximately 8-10 hours teaching), some nights and weekends as required for preparing productions and other activities. Includes benefits.
