Associate Director of Major Gifts

The Associate Director of Major Gifts is responsible for developing donors and soliciting gifts of $25,000 and higher to meet an annual goal exceeding $3 million as well as fundraising for special campaigns as assigned.

This individual works collaboratively with and in support of the President and CEO, The Mary B. Galvin Artistic Director, Chief Development Officer, and leadership volunteers. Manages a portfolio of major gift prospects, securing support for the Joffrey’s top priorities, including productions, scholarship, community engagement, endowment and capital campaigns. Works collaboratively with the Associate Director of Planned Giving and Major Gifts, Associate Director of Corporate Partnerships, and Assistant Director of Grants and Sponsorships, fortifying processes that facilitate continuous identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a growing pipeline of planned and major gifts.  

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Works to develop the Joffrey’s major gift pipeline, including identification of prospects, cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation activities and meeting goals established for annual and strategic support.
  • Manages relationships with approximately 125 current and prospective major and planned gift donors (including individuals, corporations, and foundations), building donor engagement and loyalty through proactive cultivation and stewardship activities.
  • Initiates contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors and develop appropriate cultivation strategies.
  • Moves potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure, makes solicitations when appropriate.
  • Maintains stewardship contacts with donors.
  • Recommend and assist with meetings and programs involving the President and CEO, The Mary B. Galvin Artistic Director, Chief Development Officer, and members of the Board of Directors; provides appropriate briefing in advance.
  • Maintains call reports, biographical, relationship, and other relevant information for portfolio in Tessitura.
  • Works collaboratively with the Chief Development Officer, volunteers, and staff members within and outside the Development Department to develop a culture of giving, volunteerism, and stewardship that supports the Joffrey’s major gifts effort and to ensure coordination of activities and resources.
  • Adheres to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Development Officer or President and CEO.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS: 

Undergraduate degree required. Three years of experience working with high-net-worth individual donors, with demonstrated ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors in order to develop relationships between them and the Joffrey. Interest in dance, dance education and outreach, and in building donor relationships in support of the Joffrey’s mission is highly desirable. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments. Must have a solid commitment towards diversity, inclusion, and equity.   

 

SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, additional hours as required, including regular attendance at evening and weekend performances and events.

 

APPLICABLE PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES: General mobility in office areas. Local travel required.  Ability to operate data processing and other office equipment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
