Thodos Dance Chicago (TDC) celebrated its 25th season in 2017-2018 and announced an organizational change, transforming it from a touring dance company to a project based dance organization. Under its new mission, TDC is dedicated to engage and enrich the community through dance creation, advocacy, education, and mentorship.

Job Description: General Manager

The General Manager works  closely with and reports to the Founder & Artistic Director and manages the day-to-day operations, acts as a liaison with the board of directors, leads marketing campaigns, and develops fundraising solicitations to uphold the mission of the company.

 

Areas of Responsibility:

 

Daily Operations

The General Manager work in conjunction with Artistic Director to maintain the business office of the organization, including but not limited to: answering the phone, monitoring info email account, updating website, etc, providing administrative and onsite support to (current, developing, and future) projects, and keeping  abreast of activities and developments in the arts/dance community.

 

Board Management

The General Manager is the primary liaison to the Board of Directors and engages them with the company, including but not limited to: prepare agenda and presenting reports (including, but not limited to: financial report, staff/administrative report, and other ad hoc reports as required), and maintain documents according to legal requirements and/or Board policies and procedures.

 

Marketing

The General Manager leads ongoing marketing efforts for general branding and maintaining a visible presence in the arts/dance community, as well as maintains communications with supporters and audience members.  This includes but is not limited to: promoting specific projects including generating eBlasts through Constant Contact, strategizing and implementing social media plans via Hootsuite, designing, printing and distributing physical materials such as postcards or posters; and other marketing strategies, and updating the company website through Wordpress.

 

Fundraising

The General Manager works in collaboration with Board of Directors and Artistic Director on all fundraising activities including special events, end of year appeal, and project initiatives to provide administrative support, including but not limited to: designing solicitation materials, maintaining accurate and complete records of financial contributions and other substantial support, and identifying new funding opportunities that are aligned with TDC’s mission and goals.

Recommended Skills and Qualifications:

  • Passion about dance, especially Thodos Dance Chicago’s mission and history
  • Bachelor’s Degree or  2+ years of performing arts administrative experience
  • Competence in performing arts administrative related areas; such as fundraising, marketing, operations and project management
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong social media skills
  • Multi-tasking, organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Publisher)
  • Proficiency with Google Suite (Google Calendar, Google Drive; Google Docs and Google Forms), Dropbox, and other web applications
  • Experience with Constant Contact & Hootsuite or other marketing tools
  • Experience with Wordpress or other website publishing tools
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and additional graphic design skills a plus

 

Compensation and Schedule:

The General Manager is a year-round, hourly position with rate to commensurate with experience. The General Manager may be paid on a monthly basis. Additional non-monetary compensation includes: flexible work schedule, membership to Charity How To (webinars for professional development), access to workout facility and an onsite in building parking spot.

 

This role works an average of 10-20  hours per week, with the understanding that hours may increase around project deadlines. The schedule is flexible within the hours of 9 AM – 6 PM with the added ability to work remotely (must be present in the office at least once a  week, preferably at a regular availability). Some occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
