Witness the U.S. premiere of renowned choreographer Cathy Marston's 'Atonement' in her re-imagining of Ian McEwan’s 2001 novel-turned Academy Award®-winning film.
The poignant story follows Briony Tallis, revealed in the book as its author and now portrayed in the ballet as a celebrated choreographer, as she grapples with the haunting echoes of her past through a breathtaking dance of redemption.
Chicago Performs returns to the MCA for its third year with a four-day festival of dynamic, electrifying performances by artists Lin Hixon and Matthew Goulish, Lykanthea, and cat mahari. Taking place within and outside of the museum’s walls, this annual festival of performance puts the wealth of revelatory live arts made by the Chicago creative community front and center, inviting a small cohort of local artists to share new performance works, including those developed through the MCA’s In Progress series and New Works Initiative.
In “Cycles,” dance becomes a celebration of life's continual rhythms and a testament to the beauty found in transformation. The Seldoms and Hedwig Dances presented four works on this theme at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, July 12-13. The caliber of dance presented by both companies through innovative choreography, exceptional technical skill and creative world-building raises the standard of artistic excellence in the Chicago dance community. “Cycles” not only enriches the cultural fabric of the city but also sets a new benchmark for artistic achievement and aspiration.
Returning to Millennium Park following a wildly successful 2022 engagement, the Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project presents ten dynamic companies in a concert exploring the divine, mystical and spiritual ways our ancestors communicate and celebrate with us. Featuring dance genres from Chicago Footwork to Hip Hop mixed with Ballet (aka Hiplet), to jazz and contemporary dance, this concert promises to stir every soul.
Participating in a summer intensive is a rite of passage for every dancer. Whether it's through your local dance studio or a well-established company, these programs provide a valuable opportunity to learn varying styles of movement under different instructors alongside new peers. This grueling yet rewarding experience tests a dancer's strength, technique, endurance and artistry, ultimately leaving them stronger than when they began.
