Overview

Maya is a poet and dancer with a movement background inclusive of Contemporary, Breaking, and Afro-Latin (Salsa, Merengue, Bachata and Rumba). Smuggling art into their politics Maya collaborates to host workshops, mount productions, create curriculum, and publish in both English and Spanish. Research is paramount to their artistic practice and they hold also travel, discussion, and improvisation as equal contributors to their art.

The recipient of a 2018 Links Hall Co-Missions Residency, Maya has been presented at Links Hall (Chicago, IL), Elastic Arts (Chicago, IL), Depaul Art Museum (Chicago, IL), 99¢ Plus Gallery (New York,New York), Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT), and with Espiral Danza (Antigua & Guatemala City, Guatemala). Maya holds a BA in American Studies— with a History concentration, from Wesleyan University ‘10 (Middletown, CT).
