Overview

The School of Theatre Arts at Illinois Wesleyan University offers four degrees in theatre: the BFA in Music Theatre, the BFA in Acting, the BFA in Theatre Design & Technology and the BA in Theatre Arts. We also have courses leading to minors in theatre arts, dance, arts administration, design & technology and film studies. We provide conservatory-style training in a high-caliber liberal arts setting. Additionally, we produce a full season of performances each year that are open to the public.

Here are some of the qualities that make SoTA unique:

Individual Focus
With a 4:1 student to faculty ratio within the School of Theatre Arts, IWU prides itself on providing individual attention and mentorship to all students. Our small class sizes and student-focused curriculum offer dynamic and flexible professional training from faculty with years of industry experience.

The Cross-Disciplinary Advantage
With a commitment to a strong, broad education, the School of Theatre Arts ensures students leave with an understanding of the world beyond the performing arts and the ability to think critically. This unique approach combines conservatory-style training with traditional liberal arts values.

Undergraduate Only
As a wholly undergraduate institution, IWU students are never taught by or asked to compete with graduate students. Our students have more opportunities to perform, direct and design than most schools.
