Three shows ya gotta see this March

The Shows Ya Gotta see is a monthly series highlighting "must-see" performances curated by See Chicago Dance critics.

How about something fresh, local and prolific?

Ya gotta support the “home team” of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago March 2-13

Hubbard Street is back this Spring with “Season 44: RE/CHARGE,” a 2-program series featuring a combination of world premiere’s by choreographers Darrell Grand Moultrie and Amy Hall Garner, and favorites from the company’s extensive repertoire, including works by Ohad Naharin, Lar Lubovitch and Jermaine Maurice Spivey. There are two separate programs—Program A and Program B—and each appears to be as exciting as the next. Hubbard Street is offering special $15 tickets (average $30-$80) so take advantage of this offer while it lasts! Program A—March 2-6, Program B—March 9-13 at the Museum of Contemporary Arts, 220 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $15-$110 and can be found by clicking the event pages below.

How about something new, vibrant and engaging?

Ya gotta catch the South Loop Spark Plug on March 11-12

The “South Loop Spark Plug” is a two-night event featuring world premieres by some of Chicago’s most innovative artists. Choreographers Keyierra Collins, Orlando De León Jr., Keisha Janae, and Vershawn Sanders-Ward participated in a six-month mentorship with artists Bebe Miller and Darrell Jones, the culmination of which will be an evening of dance that you can only find in Chicago. These artists are in-demand, so take advantage of this affordable opportunity to see their new work, because these artists are blowing up! Friday and Saturday, March 11 & 12 at the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago, 1306 S Michigan Ave. Tickets are $10 for students, $15 for Industry and $30 for General and can be found by clicking the event link below.

How about something fun, lighthearted and tap-tastic?

Ya gotta experience THEM! (The Band) on March 11

“THEM!” (The Band) is a queer folk ensemble featuring the duo of Nathan Kistler on guitar, piano and  vocals, and tap dancer Molly Smith, also playing the cajon. Kistler and Smith trade rhythms, perform original tunes and tell stories through song and dance, and the show is appropriate for all ages. If you are up north, or want to get away from the bustle of downtown, why not kick back and enjoy something off the beaten path—and you can’t get too much of tap dance! March 11 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1500 W. Elmdale Ave. There is a suggested donation of $10 and tickets can be found by clicking the event link below.
