Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre (Chicago) presents the inaugural New Voices Festival!

An Invitation to Experiment, Take Risks, and Expand the Boundaries of Dance

We welcome artists who take creative risks, experiment across disciplines, and challenge conventional approaches to dance presentation, collaboration, and performance. We are especially interested in work that questions traditional conceptual models, explores new possibilities for movement and storytelling, and reflects the distinct perspectives of its creators.

The inaugural New Voices Festival offers artists an opportunity to expand an existing project, deepen a work in progress, or develop an early draft of a new creation. We aim to cultivate an environment of artistic exploration, dialogue, and mutual discovery while uplifting voices and interdisciplinary practices that broaden how we experience dance.

For this inaugural edition, we encourage applicants from a dynamic spectrum of dance artists spanning generations, gender identities, neurotypes, movement disciplines, inclusive practices, and creative approaches.

We encourage proposals that are exploratory, personal, unconventional, and unapologetically individual.

Proposed Work:

– Preferred duration: 6–8 minutes // Maximum duration: 10 minutes

– Work status: Existing work, work in progress, expanded project, or draft of a new creation

– The applying artist is responsible for securing, managing, and compensating all dancers and other performers.

– Artist Stipend is $350 per selected choreographer or piece.
