Intermediate/Advanced Arms, Turns and Feet

Clinard studied at Amor De Dios in Madrid with Ciro. He would dedicate each class to one aspect of flamenco dance i.e ARMS, TURNS and FEET. This workshop is modeled after Ciro’s approach to examining each part separately so that the student gains a more intimate understanding of flamenco dancing as a whole not as a series of disconnected “steps”. This workshop is open to students with a minimum of one year of flamenco studies through advanced level.

Dec 20th TURNS This class will look at turns commonly found at the end of “subidas and llamadas” as well as slower turns found in letras like “vuelta quebradas”.

Bulerias por Fiesta & Tangos por Fiesta / Intermediate and Advanced Performance Workshop

Bulerías is one of the most complex palos (rhythms) and dance especially in traditional improvisation, as well as Tangos. These two workshops develop improvisational skills and a good sense of flamenco style. Classes are designed to train dancers to interact with the guitarist and singer in a spontaneous way. Steps and structure are taught so the dancers have a base to work off. Eventually, the students learn how to organize their own dance on the spot and improvise interpreting the cante (song). This gives the students the skills to really listen to the guitar and singing, which will also be useful for an overall understanding of how this art form works in general. A flamenco dancer must always have bulerías and tangos in their repertoire to perform. Bulerías originated as a festive dance. It continues to be the highlight of fiestas or juergas. These workshops will have live guitar and singing accompaniment.

**Clinard Dance participates in the Pilsen’s 2nd Friday Open Studio walk. Students are encouraged to share their workshops studies with live musicians on January 9th at 7p as Clinard Dance opens its doors to the public.
