Joshua L. Ishmon, Artistic Director of the Emerging Choreographers Showcase of Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, offers a variety of influences to his choreography as well as his approach to technical studies. The base of his style is rooted in the techniques of Horton, Graham & Ballet but, Ishmon has the high energy and grounding of West African, the rhythmic sensibilities of tap dance, and the variety of dynamic oppositions found in the various styles of hip hop intertwined throughout his interpretation of contemporary dance.
