"The first drawing was a simple line drawn round the shadow of a man cast by the sun on a wall." – Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519)
Without light there is no evidence nor witness to the invention of a being. Through motion, stillness, and gesture we witness the moment of invention, states of being, the revelation of desire, the inventing of the self. Form and movement of the body define the space, reveal the fulfillment of one’s intentions and the consequences of our desire. We invent ourselves through the memories, associations, experiences, and limitations of our bodies.
Join in an evening of sketching and performance inspired by the special exhibition Imaging/Imagining: The Body as Art at the Smart Museum of Art. Take part in a gesture drawing workshop and enjoy a performance by Mordine & Co. Dance Theater.
Artistic Director/Choreographer: Shirley Mordine
Performing Artists: Simone Baechle, Danielle Gilmore, Joseph Hutto, Emily Lukasewski, Michael O'Neil, Melissa Pillarella
