La Llorona reimagines the iconic Mexican myth through a modern, compassionate lens. Choreographed by Julianna Rubio Slager, this powerful new ballet follows Maria—a new mother overcome by suspicion and despair—as she battles the silent struggle of postpartum depression. Rather than ending in tragedy, Maria’s journey becomes one of healing, empathy, and renewal. Through evocative movement and raw storytelling, La Llorona brings awareness to the mental health challenges many mothers face, especially within minority communities.
