La Llorona reimagines the iconic Mexican myth through a modern, compassionate lens. Choreographed by Julianna Rubio Slager, this moving new ballet follows Maria—a new mother overwhelmed by suspicion and despair—as she faces the silent struggle of postpartum depression. Instead of ending in tragedy, Maria’s story unfolds into one of healing and renewal. Through vivid choreography and raw storytelling, La Llorona shines a light on maternal mental health, especially within minority communities, offering a message of empathy, hope, and restoration.
