About “Mates for Life: Whooping Crane”
We often attribute human behavior to cranes. They mate for life, they stand nearly the same height as us, and of course, they DANCE! Whooping Crane courting rituals and other movements inspired the choreography of the Joffrey Ballet’s Xavier Núñez. Two dancers (Olivia Duryea and Dylan Gutierrez, both of the Joffrey Ballet) portray the beauty of Whooping Cranes in their natural habitat and inspire viewers to observe with the same urgency as a conservationist. The Whooping Crane film is the first in director Tim Whalen’s “Mates for Life” series, which leverages the intersection of art and nature in order to spark broader conversations about conservation issues that affect us all. Find out more about the film series here.
