Hubbard Street’s Summer Intensives offer unique opportunities for committed dancers to refine their skills in multiple forms, broaden their dance vocabulary, and explore the latest in contemporary movement with top artists in the field. New for 2016, its Junior Intensive program is ideal for emerging dancers ages 9 to 13, who are working toward intermediate and advanced coursework; Junior Intensive students take ballet, modern, jazz, improvisation, and composition courses, and perform for family and friends at the conclusion of each week. For dancers ages 12 to 16 at intermediate and advanced levels, its Level I Preparatory Intensives are ideal for serious dancers who are working towards advanced and pre-professional coursework. Intensive I students take ballet, modern, improvisation, and composition courses; apply techniques through the learning of repertory phrases; and perform for family and friends at the conclusion of each week. And its Level II Primary Intensive program prepares dancers ages 14 to 18 to transition into pre-professional training. In addition to ballet, modern, and composition courses, Intensive II students also study repertory excerpts, and receive instruction in improvisation techniques, Pilates, and yoga. Dancers planning to attend any one of these three Summer Intensive programs are strongly encouraged to attend a placement class on Saturday, April 16 from 2–4pm at the Hubbard Street Dance Center.
