Synapse Arts Open Company Class
Aerial Dance Chicago presents
Multi-disciplinary
Class
In celebration of the 2014/15 tenth anniversary season, Synapse Arts invites intermediate and advanced movers to ten open company classes. Classes take place on Wednesdays from 10:30AM to 12PM, March 12 through May 14. Classes are taught by Director Rachel Damon, and senior company members. Synapse contemporary dance technique classes focus on dynamic clarity, comfort with the floor, and freeing one's momentum by first understanding core strength. Choreographic combinations allow the dancer to exercise their artistic license. Company classes will feature live accompaniment by percussionist Peter Manheim.
Teaching artists include:
March 12, 19 and 26: Rachel Damon — Technique classes focus on dynamic clarity, comfort with the floor, and freeing one's momentum by first understanding core strength.
April 2, 9, and 16: Matthew McMunn — Class will include a thorough warm up, an exploration of discovering and expressing character through corporal mime techniques, a progressing dance combination, and guided somatic rest/recovery work.
April 23: Megan Rhyme — A release based modern class focused on increasing mobility and awareness, and investigating the earthy and generative qualities of the body.
April 30: Katie Matteson — Ballet for contemporary dancers.
May 7 & 14: Elisa Foshay — Influenced by mindful movement practices, Bartenieff Movement Fundamentals and improvisation, this class will encourage intimate exploration one's own understanding of movement through guided improvisation, movement sequences designed to warm the body through its full ranges of motion and longer phrasework integrating multiple areas of understanding. Throughout class, participants will be provided space to investigate and adapt movement to their own bodies, while maintaining an understanding of the primary impetus of each combination of movements. By connecting with the self, participants will in turn connect with each other in the performance of phrasework within the laboratory of the class.
