The Lynching of (Insert Name of White Killer on an Unidentifeid Black Man): An Avant Garde Jazz Hip hOpera
"The Lynching of…" is the love story of two young activists in the Black Lives Matter Movement. It dramatizes the challenges that their relationship faces from differences of opinion on internal struggles within the movement and the consequences of drastic measures.
The story is inspired by the current phenomena of the many of social protest and demonstrations occurring across the United States (and other countries in sympathy), in response to the large number of unarmed blacks being killed by white civilians and police officers (such as George Zimmerman and Darren Wilson) in the United States, who suffer no punishment for their actions from the U.S. justice system. The music will combine include hip hop rapping, soul singing, avant-garde jazz, hip hop dj-ing, and operatic singing.
