Each summer, ninety students are chosen for a unique hands-on Contemporary Intensive at Urbanity Dance. Urbanity’s summer intensive is a rigorous three-week program based in Boston’s historic South End. Students receive 6-8 hours of daily instruction in ballet, modern, and contemporary technique as well as supplementary courses in in jazz, partnering, musical theater, improvisation, hip-hop, and repertory. Our Faculty represent the best in the contemporary dance world; learn from Urbanity Company members alongside guest instructors such as Jackie Nowicki and Ellenore Scott. The program culminates in in performance opportunities at the Boston Contemporary Dance Festival alongside professional dancers and choreographers from across the nation.

Urbanity’s summer intensive is a good opportunity for dancers looking to audition for professional work post-college as we have hired dancers, as recent as last year, after their attendance in the program. The intensive serves as an extended audition, allowing company leadership to observe dancers’ extended work ethic, collaborative skills, and overall character.

The audition will be led by Summer Intensive Faculty Jackie Nowicki.
