Apply now! New Works 2027 Request for Proposals are open. We welcome all proposals that are dance, dance-centric, dance-adjacent, dance-based performance, and/or performing arts.
New Works supports independent dance artists by commissioning them to make original performance pieces. This Chicago-based program reflects the founding principles of Synapse Arts, connecting artists with one another to share resources and develop their voices through the creation of unique artworks. New Works is a flexible program that centers on dancemaking process instead of a product. It is a learn-by-doing structure for trying new things and developing skills with support.
The 2027 cycle will begin in January, with final showings, screenings, or works-in-progress sharings as the culmination, during Chicago Dance Month in late June 2027.
