Ballet Chicago is seeking responsible and attentive residential chaperones to oversee dorm students during our upcoming summer intensive programs. 

Position Details

  • Duration:  7 weeks (June 20  – August 8th)
  • Location: On-site dormitory facilities
  • Salary: $700/week 
  • Benefits:  Room and board at the University Center in downtown Chicago included.

Availability: Chaperones must be available June 20th – August 8th. Chaperones may not have prior commitments such as classes, part-time jobs, or other conflicts during the program weeks. 

Schedule: The lead chaperone are temporary independent contractors, and must be available 24 hours per day for the duration of the program. The lead chaperone must live in the housing facility with the students and supervise them at all times when the students are not in class.  The lead chaperone will have designated time off each week, which will always be on weekdays.  Time off schedule will be assigned prior to the start of the program. Evenings and weekends are occupied with supervision of the students. Exact schedules may vary.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise dormitory life for dancers ages 12–20, fostering a safe, structured, and respectful living environment.
  • Oversee participant check-ins, check-outs, and daily routines, including escorting dancers to and from the studio as needed.
  • Coordinate and support evening and weekend activities in collaboration with program staff.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for participant concerns, addressing issues promptly and professionally
  • Work closely with Ballet Chicago staff to ensure smooth program operations and compliance with all program policies.
  • Maintain clear, open communication with Students, providing guidance, support, and assistance throughout their stay.
  • Coordinate chaperone schedules, including days off and coverage to ensure consistent supervision.
  • Organize and assign daily chaperone duties such as breakfast duty, lunch duty, and evening check-ins.

    Qualifications:

    • Previous experience working with youth, especially in a residential setting.
    • Valid Red Cross first aid certification.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
    • Passion for supporting young artists and fostering a positive learning environment.
    • Due to the supervisory nature of this position, candidates must be at least 21 years of age.
