Kaleidoscope Choreographers Festival

Alliance Dance Company presents our 2nd Annual Choreographers Festival - Kaleidoscope.

Last year was a big success with the final show a sellout.  This year is even bigger.

If a Kaleidoscope operates on the principle of multiple reflection,
then this dance festival is truly such!

You will not want to miss a chance to see one of the most diverse dance festivals
in Chicago with works created by 25 choreographers from the Midwest region.

Over 60 pieces were submitted for consideration by committee to bring you
a different show each night!

“Black Love Reigns Supreme” celebrates the beauty of Black relationships

Black Love is…by heart, on fire, telling the truth, cellular, quiet, bass, thick, messy, deep, moisturized, intentional, album books, chicken and dumplings, soft, hardworking, past, present and forever.

Praize Productions, Inc. is here to remind us of our expansive and enduring love with their latest theatrical production, entitled “Black Love Reigns Supreme.” On May 3rd and 4th at the Logan Center for the arts, we will expand our sometimes limited perspective with vivid and palpable imagery, inspiring us to enliven and recall the spirit that is undeniably blacklove.

Artists pack a punch during Columbia College’s Chicago Artist Festival

Thrown into the pages of a comic book, two femme superhero-like characters deliver punches and land blows to a sound score of WHACKs and THWAPs. The wind-sweeping battle turns into a playful catfight, which morphs into a fiercely sensual duet that is entangled with desire, temptation and resistance. It oozes with extraordinary power through both physical strength and sexuality. The competition in Erin Kilmurray & Kara Brody’s “Knockout” is cutthroat, but it’s the attraction that may be fatal…

Alluvion Dance Chicago: Redreaming their future

What does it mean to dream? How does dreaming help reshape our perspective? And in what ways can dreaming help recenter oneself? Alluvion Dance Chicago uses these questions to explore the liminal space that dreams provide in their performance of “we'redreaming.” Premiered at the Edge Theater on April 19, the program presents four new experimental works choreographed by Kayla Castellon, Morgan Cutler, Johnny Huntoon and Sarah Sterling.

Hometown heroes return: Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s Spring concert series

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has been entertaining Chicagoans for generations, and their impact has inspired countless of our dancers; in fact, some even go on to join the ensemble.

Veteran company member, Vernard Gilmore, and recent inductee, Isaiah Day, are both Chicago South Side natives whose talents were fostered by some of the city’s most prominent artists and institutions. In an interview with See Chicago Dance, these hometown heroes share what it’s like to be a dancer in one of the country’s most prestigious dance companies.

Bringing dance to the heartland: Boykin TWO’s “Rural Odyssey”

Chicago is fortunate to have a vast dance scene, with various companies encompassing a wide variety of genres that audiences can enjoy. However, this access to professional dance is not a universal experience. Boykin Dance Project is trying to bridge this gap between a city-centric dance world and rural areas not yet acquainted with the true potential of live professional dance.
