“Finishing the Business” - Dance and Theater Intensive in Self-on-Stage
taught by Melinda Jean Myers and Kurt Chiang

October 22, 11:00-2:30pm
Links Hall | 3111 N Western Ave.
$70 - includes one in-person or live-stream ticket to the show

In this one-day intensive, led by the creators of LPP’s upcoming show Unfinished Business, participants will generate movement, writing, and storytelling to consider how they experience the “business” of their life. Using the creative research of the show, Mindy and Kurt will lead students through an exploration where personal goals, daily tasks, body movement, and habit are the subject material of the workshop and in conversation with the practicing ensemble. Students will work together in telling and building commentary around each other’s stories to develop a unique language around gesture and play. Aims of the workshop include strengthening ensemble-building and generating new and malleable material to each individual’s artistic practice.

No prior experience in dance, performance, or improvisation necessary! This intensive is suitable for any person curious to create from their personal narrative and experience. Class size capped at 14.

About the Instructors: Melinda Jean Myers is a dance artist and choreographer visiting from Iowa City, where she is Assistant Professor of Contemporary Dance and Choreography at University of Iowa. Kurt Chiang is a theater artist in Chicago, where he has taught non-illusory performance throughout, primarily at The Neo-Futurist Theater.
