Chicago-based Ballet 5:8 celebrates ten seasons of breathtaking dance in their Harris Theater debut. Helmed by one of the few Latina Artistic Directors in the nation, Ballet 5:8 is known for fresh, explorative, and insightful ballets. A hidden gem of the southwest suburbs, Ballet 5:8 makes a glittering return to the stage, with stories inspired by and for the people of Chicago.
We are excited to present an evening of works choreographed and curated by Artistic Director Julianna Rubio Slager, with ballets inspired by Slager's Mexican-American heritage, famed artist Makoto Fujimura, and literary figures Sojourner Truth, C.S. Lewis, and Chicago's Gwendolyn Brooks. Poignant, uplifting, and insightful, each short work in the evening's performance will delight both the seasoned balletomane and the first-time audience member.
